Awesome article. I feel kind bad though because at times, I find myself hoping that other users of competitors programs never discover or make the move to Vegas. Call it slefish but I feel like I have a leg up on the Premiere, FCP, etc... users and want to keep that advantage as long as possible.

Nonetheless, nice to Vegas get some props for being the awesome porgram that it is.

The article highlights what I think is the essential advantage of Vegas: Editing speed. I hope Sony continues to focus on streamlining the editing workflow as they work on future releases. As good as Vegas is, it can be even better in this department, and when you've got a deadline, while quality is important, speed is paramount.

Nice article.

Can you talk a bit about the "templates for Vegas" they mentioned a couple of times?

Were they just setting up Veg file with specific titles and graphic or what?
Spot|DSE wrote on 10/30/2004, 7:20 AM
They are using two forms of templates. We built special templates for them using the Ultimate S tool, and we also made some specific veg templates for cutting together packages that set up their bugs, black points, and compositing modes. They can now open projects and have all the technically mandated assets in place, exactly where they need to be.

I agree, Vegas is fast loosing its appeal for me, used to be a time when I could raise a few eyebrows or get comments like "you did that with WHAT?", but not anymore. Now the response is likely to be, "Can you teach me to use it?" or "Could you use it fix this?".

My thoughts were that Vegas likely put a few people out of work at that station. (when the director can do the editing) and that the upcoming Cayman Graphics plugin will likely put someone else out of work.

Then my thoughts drifted to the cost savings and then to "How many people and how much money does it take to start a cable or satellite t.v. station?"

The future holds lots of options.

This is good stuff to read. Viva .....

To put things in context, could someone describe what sort of profile stations such as WFAA have over there.

Great article. I’m glad they like the templates function of Ultimate S. It’s really great to see a station like them using it and feeling it was made just for them. That’s great.

WFAA-8 is part of the Belo Group, one of the largest broadcast organizations in the world. They own many ABC affiliate stations across the US, plus print, radio, and internet broadcasting properties around the world. They're based out of Dallas, TX. They're also publically traded on Wall Street.
In other words, HUGE!
