So weird this one

USing Vegas Pro 8

7 mp3 events over two tracks added along with 12 PNG files on the track above.

Simply dragged a new PNG file onto the time line and suddenly the 12 PNG files and the first 2 mp3 files showed as Off-Line.

No matter what I did I couldn't get them to shpw as On-Line. Checked my hard drive and they had disappeared from their relevant folders. No sign, either, in the ecycle bin. Has any one else seen this happen?

Can Vegas somehow delete files?

Any other clues as to what may have happened.

XP Home SP2 with 3GB RAM.

Cheers

were they on your external drive? I had a bad Lacie drive that lost 20GB of my video files....

Its most likely your harddrive thats gone haywire. Make sure you dont move, delete, copy, paste anything on that drive and try some file recovery program. I was able to recover most of my files. I dont remember what program I used but it was free and found with google.
---EDIT---
Oh yeah, and those programs take 1-9 hours going trough your harddrive but they do the work ok.

I don't have an external drive.

All files were backed up previously. Learned to do that a very long time ago;)

Try using Windows "Search" feature and see if they have gone from the computer or have somehow gotten into a different than you are expecting to find them in.

Nowhere to be found!

They were backed up on my wife's PC, thanksfully
