So when will Vegas support Sony's new HDV camera?

I'm seriously considering purchasing the Sony HDV-FX1, coming out at the beginning of November, but have recently been given pause after noticing that NOTHING out there can capture its stream to a computer.

Currently the only officially announced support I've seen is from CineForm's Connect HD., but even it isn't out yet and it just seems silly to pay that much for a mere capturing app (at least for my modest needs).

Now, obviously that sample FX1 video that came out here was captured on something, and I know I've seen words that Vegas *will* support Sony's HDV, my question is *when*? Next month? Three months? Six months?

Those who do know (and Spot's kinda hinted that he's one of them) are probably bound by an NDA. In other words, you'll just have to be patient - along with the rest of those anxiously awaiting the news :-)

The fact that other NLEs, including Premiere Pro and Liquid Edition have announced HDV support shows that it's all happening round about now.

I expect Vegas will support it by the time the cameras are out.

Right but will Vegas4 and earlier bods be forced to buy Vegas5? I hope not 'cos I shant. Maybe SONY will package Vegas6 with the camera??????

Most likely V5 would be supporting it. You don't see Adobe having Premier Pro 1 supporting it after all. :)

True but Vegas4 is arecent product still being advertised and sold when this camera was announced. If HDV support is only to be in Vegas5 Sony will need give me a free upgrade if they want me to buy the camera.

when is a good question, but also how.

what will it take to get native capture of the hdv stream, without the re-compression that most of the other edit platforms are using?

if hdv is a 25Mbps stream at 1080i, it seems like it all should fit over a firewire connection.

It would be nice also if Sony had a deal going for purchasers of the new FX1 that if they already owned V5 you could get 25% of the cost of the camera.

Heh, personally I think the camera should COME with Vegas 5. Would be a great way to introduce the software to a bunch of pros/prosumers that likely wouldn't give it a second glance.

It will be interesting how vegas handles the resolution for realtime editing. i would imaging that the camera would have a lot of hardware power to compress on the fly hdv res to 25mbps. I hope my computer can handle it. Even still, it all sounds cheap enough for me to upgrade machines anyway, hdv and vegas, will be quite an impressive combination!
