soft edge borders

I've applied a soft edge border to my video track and got pretty much what I expected, but I want it to fade to white around the image, not black. When I place a white frame on the lower video track I get the soft edge fading to white—almost! Across the top and bottom there is a band of black. The frame size on the video and the frame of white is 720X480. The bands of black take up about 10% of the total frame height.
Anyone know what's going on?

where do you look for "soft edge borders"?

I have a similar problem where I use a border on a whole track then use track motion to have the track shrink to a PIP box and instead it uses a white border until it gets to where I set the soft edge. When it gets to the soft edge diamond it just cuts to soft edge. I would have thought that the edge would become progressively softer, but intesad the border becomes progressively whiter. That's pretty annoying.

Also, how does one just "suddendly" change to a soft edge border without it trying to do it progressively. Is there a way to tell it not to transition, but just change to the border when it reaches that point?

Hi Tom,

You might try selcting "hold" on the border keyframe. It will "pop" to the next keyframe.

I'll try that. Thanks. There are soooo many options in here. I love this stuff.
