Software cannot find optical drive

IAM4UK wrote on 12/15/2009, 9:18 PM
In all Sony Creative Software programs I have tried recently (all of which used to work), I get a "No Device" error when I try to burn any media.

Other programs like Nero 9 Burning ROM and LightScribe Labeler can identify and use the drive (LG BH08LS20) without issue, as could the Sony programs until today.

Programs tried:
Vegas Pro 9.0c 64-bit
Sound Forge Pro 10.0a
DVD Architect 5.0b
CD Architect 5.2d

Operating System: Win7 Home Premium 64 bit

The LG BluRay writer is updated to the latest firmware, 2.0.

Ideas?

Something to try:

Select "Options", "Preferences", and look under the "General" tab for "Skip drive database; autodetect drive capabilities." Check the box if it is empty and try again.

Thanks, cbrillow, but that was one of my first troubleshooting steps. No Sony Creative software finds my LG drive, but all other software that should find it (Windows explorer, LightScribe, Nero or any installation/playback program) does. Other troubleshooting included uninstalling and re-installing the Sony software.

Try this:

Boot up in Safe Mode, go to Device Manager, and remove all instances of the drive (there may be more than one). Then restart, and let Windows find it and register it.

It is not necessary to cross-post in these forums.

Thanks for the troubleshooting advice, musicvid. I will try that procedure.

Regarding the cross-posting: I assumed many forum users might view only one product's threads. Sorry if that was incorrect.

Tried the Safe Mode removal. The OS (Win 7 64-bit) did re-install the drive upon regular reboot, but all Sony programs still fail to see it, while all other programs see it.
