Can we assume your operating system is a full updated Windows 10 64-bit?

Assuming you have Windows 10, do you have QuickTime installed on your system?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes for windows 10. I have QuickTime 7, but I haven't used it for a while and it seems to hang as well.
I have installed the latest version of QuickTime and the latest version of the Yamaha-Steinberg driver and it still crashes.

No luck. There is no "File I/O manager" listed in my Task Manager. In the Movie Studio tab I do have "File I/O surrogate (not visible) 32 bit" listed. If I end that, nothing changes and the start up screen still says "Creating file I/O manager" .

When it crashes I get this:

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have the same issue.

No. I have been corresponding with them and they have had no useful suggestions as yet.

After six months, I guess neither of us will have much hope then!

Doesn't look like it. I downloaded DaVinci Resolve at the recommendation of a friend in the business. It's free, it works AND you don't need obsolete unsupported plugins like Quicktime for Windows to run it.
