Solution to unwanted Windows Login Screen

The installation of the Microsoft .NET framework required by Vegas 5 causes an unwanted side effect on many computers - the Windows Login Screen. For Windows machines with a single user, instead of booting directly to the desktop, you will see the Windows login screen after installing Vegas 5 and the .NET framework. This is caused by a bug/feature of .NET 1.1, and the solution is found at the following link:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;827072&Product=NETFrame

I'm reposting this information from another thread with a new and I hope more informative Subject line.

(An alternative solution is to simply delete the ASP NET user account using the "User Accounts" tool in the Windows control panel. Several Vegas 5 users have reported no problems with this technique, but the above link is the official Microsoft solution.)

You can also bring up the run box and type,

control userpasswords2

Then when the user accoutns box comes up select the permenant user that you want to use and uncheck the box at the top which says

"Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."

It will ask you to verify the user name and password when you apply the settings.
