Some MPegs don't work?

Why do some MPegs work well and others not at all. Vegas won't even allow me to drop them on the timeline.

probably because there are all different kinds of mpeg. do you know what kind of mpeg you're dealing with?

I think these are corrupted. They are actually VOB files. Some will place and work, others won't.

Others work, but many times when I leave Vegas to go to another program and then come back, several of the clips will say "Media Offline" Vegas will seem to lock up for a while before you can do anything.
