I have Vegas 6 and all I want to do is make a slideshow presentation with scanned photos, add some special effects and music then put it on a DVD. I do not understand the helps and show me hows because when I do what the book or computer says it doesn't turn out Can Someone Please Help Me!!
when you say that you have vegas 6, is it Vegas 6 Platinum? or Vegas 6 Movie edition? Or is it the full Vegas + DVD software? I don't know how to make a DVD in the consumer versions but in the Full version you need to use DVD Architect. As for making the video, you only need to view the explorer window in Vegas and drag/drop the pictures on the Timeline. Then you just simply drag the clips to as long as you want by clicking on the edge and dragging, and you drag one clip over another to make a transition
I have vegas 6 platinum and I have dragged and dropped but I don't understand how to put in the transitions. When I do drag and drop it also shows 2 copies of the same pics in the timeline but not in the preview. Thank you for responding...
The timeline repeats the picture as often as necessary to fill up the duration that the picture occupies. If you were to stretch the picture out longer or zoom in you would see more than two copies.
To create transitions, drag one picture partially over another one so they overlap. You'll now have a crossfade between them. If you want something other than a fade then choose any other transition you want from the transitions menu at the bottom of the screen and drag it onto that overlap.
The preview window will show the current cursor location. If your cursor isn't on a picture, you won't see anything in the preview window.
ok sounds simple except i'm not computer literate enough to know what m$ is or nle? can you explain more or send me the web address for the program you are referring to?
Editing video is a relatively sophisticated activity and Vegas is a non-linear-editor (NLE) designed for complex work. Naturally, as with any sophisticated tool, you can also use it for simple jobs (such as slide shows). But there is an unavoidable period in which you have to study the manual and spend the hours needed to learn how it all works. If you don't want to spend that time then you need something that doesn't take long to learn -- maybe Powerpoint.
Okay, we've all been newbies at one stage, and I know I asked my fair share of "How do I?" questions.
This may not be the definitive way to do it, but here is a quick and dirty tutorial done my way;
1. Place all your stills inside a folder where you can navigate to them easily
2. Make sure they are all facing the right way up (use windows slideshow view to turn them if necessary… right click, view/filmstrip). Consider renaming the media so that pic 1. appears in the head of your show etc…
3. Open Vegas
4. File/properties/ select a template suitable to your needs… for me in Australia I use PAL DV, or PAL DV Widescreen for DVD authoring. Your needs may differ.
5. View/Video Preview (tick)
6. Options/Preferences/Editing tab.
Okay, how we doin’ so far?
Now… change the “New Still Image Length” tab to a suitable length of time/frames.
And change the “Cut to Overlap conversion” to a suitable transition length.
7. make sure “Automatically overlap multiple selected media when added” is ticked.
8. Hit apply and exit this dialogue.
9.Make sure view/explorer (Alt+1) is ticked.
10. navigate to your folder of stills
11. select all media
12.Drag it onto the time line.
Or.
9. go File/import/Media
etc…..(10-12)
13. click the first slide to highlight it.
14. right click and choose “select events to end”
15. right click over the transition (X)
16. Insert the crossfade you want…. You can play with these now to your heart’s content. If you hit “Alt+7” to open the transitions tab, you can drag them onto the timeline where you want them.
17. add music track, text etc, and render.
