1) AE can read .avi DV files rendered in Vegas. AE will use the MS DV reader, which is not great, but is ok. If you have the Canopus DV codec installed, you can render to that in Vegas, and read that in AE, render in AE, and read it back in Vegas- probably the best way to send DV round trip (Canopus is a good DV codec0 one of the best).

* The best round trip is uncompressed- no compression artifacting, plus you can move the alpha channel to/from.

2) AE or any other app cannot write DV files with the Vegas DV codec.

You can view and use SF DV encoded files in other applications, but you cannot author SF DV avi files in anything but Vegas Video.
