Sony and video editing

I recently took delivery of Sony's new 4k Action Camera - the X1000V, which is quite an exciting thing, but what caught my attention was that it came with some Sony editing software, called "Action Cam Movie Creator" apparently created in Japan.

Given that the 4k files that this camera creates can be imported straight to the Vegas timeline, I cannot help but ask - What's going on?

Obviously the Action Cam editor is designed to work with those specific files (although you should also be able to edit in Vegas, of course).

It's being placed squarely in competition with GoPro, which comes with its own editing software.
Probably also optimized for editing transport streams imported from the camera, which is no small trick.
