I just tried to render using the Sony AVC encoder in V11 and could not find it. Only choices for MP4 are XDCAM EX and Mainconcept. Trying the Mainconcept.
Version 9 Sony AVC has a slew of Memory Stick presets (including SD NTSC but no PAL), AVCHD and Blu-ray HD presets and some Internet presets including 4:3 SD at 30p and 25p (square pixels).
Version 10 adds Blu-ray 24p HD and some more Internet options (all square pixels I presume).
Version 11 lacks any internet presets.
Which particular preset in an earlier version are you looking for?
just had (for the first time in ages) a pal sd project that had to go out as sd dvd, and they wanted a net version as well.
can't for the life of me remember where the pal sd preset was i used (or did i create one? oi vey, memory), anyway, couldn't find any suitable PAL template under mc or sony mp4....
Must be an installation bug. I can see the folder in Vegas 11 directory for the Sony AVC codec dll files but the software doesn't bring it up on the list of options.
Edit: False Alarm - this does not consistently work!
I think I've figured a workaround to this.
Open Sony Vegas 11 with out specifying a project name. That is, you want to have nothing on your timeline. Then, open your project using the File->Open sequence. The Sony AVC Encoder should now be available.
However, If I open a project that already has the Encoder missing, and open another project from the File->Open sequence, the Encoder will be missing in the second project.
I've done 15 minutes of testing on this, seems to work, however I'd be interested to hear if this works for others.
Still looking for a workaround. This seems to work. But this problem is so "flakey", I'm not sure the workaround is reproducible.
1) Options->Preferences->Uncheck Automatically open last project on startup.
2) Close Vegas
3) Open Vegas to blank project.
4) Insert a Generated Text Event
5) File->Render As (just to check to see if the Sony AVC Encoder is listed as an option.)
6) File->Open->the project you want to render
7) File->Render As. Check to see if the Sony AVC Encoder is there
I have the same problem with Sony AVC encoder on 64bit edition. Still missing... I 've tried what you suggest and.... dadam! It was there! But when I try to render the project out, Vegas crashes all the times and "an error message occurs"! I have tried everything. Nothing! A patch upgraded must be released soon by Sony...
Well I consistently get the AVC encoder, but NEVER get the template I want!! In 10e there was a HD 1920x1080-50P option; perfect for my TM900 footage, which was then sent to the PS3 for delightful TV viewing. Now - not there, and none of the options can be manipulated. What's up with that??
I have tried rendering mpeg2 files; they frequently fall over with the "an error has occurred.." message.
Not happy so far.

Here's a good starting point, adjust the bitrate to your choice.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away...
When I came home last night at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I looked around the hall
I couldn’t see him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door... (slam!)
Last night I saw upon the stair
A little man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away
Well, first I didn't have it, then I did and now it has done again. And as I mentioned earlier it is not just the Sony AVC option but also the Sony MXF option.
I just posted a new thread and then saw this one. I just reinstalled Pro 10 along with 11 and now it shows up. What a pain though. I will next try one of the work arounds listed above. I hope Sony resolves this quickly.
As I recently said in another thread, "As has been the deal with every major point release of Vegas, it will have a few issues which could not be caught in beta testing and only show up when released to the vastly larger user base. Traditionally, there will be an update release about a month later which will address most problems."
