Sony AVC/MVC Render Broken in V13 - bug?

MarkHolmes wrote on 4/28/2014, 3:30 PM
Seems to be a problem with Vegas Pro 13 when trying to render in the Sony AVC/MVC format, which is the primary format I render to for delivery to clients and the web. When rendering to any template, I simply get an error message which states: "An error occurred while creating the media file..(File name here). An invalid argument was specified."
The same project in Vegas 10 and 11 render fine in these formats. I've tried turning on and off GPU acceleration, with no change. My system specs are up to date as of today (4/28/14) if that helps at all.
Something for Sony to look at... I have one other small bug to report, but will post in another thread.
Vegas 13 in other ways is looking like a very stable release thus far though.

I've seen that error when you are trying to render to a file name that is currently open in another program.

Wish it were that easy - happens no matter what I name it, with Vegas 13 only program open.

So I've explored more - it seems to only give the error on my saved presets. I can recreate the presets using the stock templates and it renders though... Weird.
Hopefully it will be fixed in an update - meanwhile I have a workaround.
Early adopter / first world problems...;-)

MarkHolmes,
That is weird that you can't reproduce it by rebuilding the template. Can you perhaps post the non-working template somewhere? You can find your saved templates in <home>\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Render Templates -- perhaps just zip that whole folder? I can ask the forum admin for your email if you'd like to take this offline.

I think this is a bit similar to what I experienced in early days of VP12...

MarkHolmes, do you use internet templates of Sony AVC from VP10/11 ?

Hey Chris, thanks so much! I'm really not worried about it - I rendered the AVCHD file for my latest client project last night - it flew with my new AMD 7950 card. It's rendering the MPEG2 DVD file now (I'm still shocked that some people want DVD delivery!) and it's the fastest I've ever seen Vegas render.
The templates were all from Vegas 10 though. I updated to 11 but never used it - too buggy for my needs - and skipped 12 for similar reasons. 13 is looking like the best Vegas since perhaps 8 or 9 - been using it since version 4 with Sonic Foundry.
Thanks again for the concern - but just resaving the templates was no trouble. The only change from the stock templates was the bit rate.
