Sony AVC rendering: unknown error

FritzG wrote on 5/25/2011, 1:38 AM
I' d like to render my projects with the Sony AVC rendering template at 26 Mbps, for it seems to conform to my camera's orginal format, that is the peculiar high quality h264 video that comes with Sony HDR-XR550 (HD FX mode 24 Mbps, 1920 50i), but until now I get only "unknown error" messages and a frustrating impossibility to go on rendering as soon as I click the enter button. I can obtain very satisfactory m2t videos al 25 Mbps through MainConcept Mpeg2 rendering template, but I wonder whether avc files would be better...
My video card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 480) is not seen ad a GPU enabled one by Vegas 10d: should it be?

The sony AVC can't render above 21.9 Mbps for 50i videos.
Anyway the quality loss shouldn't big huge comapre with 24Mbps

Thank you for your reply. Now, the big issue is why did Sony use a file format in its camcorders that its main software is not able to render at its best? A secondary question is related to the fact that AVC rendering template DOES de facto show a 26 Mbps bit rate as a possible option... Besides, I did not find a 21.9 Mbps option...

No clue.

- 26Mbps is for 50/60p rendering (just added in the latest update though).
- to get 21.9Mbps, just change the bitrate in the custom setting and save it as a new template.

Why is VMS able to render Sony AVC fine up to 25Mbps, but Pro chokes above 21.9? This just seems strange to pay 5x as much and get less. DVD Architect doesn't handle the AVC files right either and reports crazy errors about them being higher than 28Mbps and not able to write to DVD then saying they are not comparable with the selected media (Which I have set for Blu Ray 25GB).

I ask [b]why[b] less and less these days, but see my comments in this thread.

Different companies. They just happen to be owned by the same parent corporation, but they are different companies.

Sony's HD FX Mode is 24 mbps MAX, it's average bitrate is right at 21 mbps, this corresponds with the Sony AVC encoder setting. If you're curious, run your files through this incredibly handy bitrate analyzer and see what's actually going on.
