Sony camcorder 4 channel audio?

Does anyone know how to (or if it's even posssible) capture the 4 channel surround sound from one of the Sony surround sound capable camcorders like the DCR-HC1000 into Vegas Video 7? Is this an automatic sensing thing upon capture or are there settings that need to be checked somewhere? I just ordered the 4 channel mic to go with the DCR-HC1000 and I'm reading on the net that one needs "Click to Video" and a Vaio computer. I hope that's not right.

most people tend to use http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html for 4 track capture

zcheema,
Yeah I'm noticing that. I did see on the Vegas Video 7 webpage that Sony 5.1 DVD is supported though. I am hoping I can import the 4 channels without having to spend another $39.95 since these are both Sony products and they ought to play together nice.

I looked through the Vegas 7 manual and it spells it out on p. 43.
5.1 channel audio from DVD camcorders will be downmixed to stereo when importing into a stereo project. When importing into a 5.1 surround project, audio will be added to separate tracks for the center, front, rear and LFE channels.
Make sense?

The 5.1 audio capture from "Import DVD" works great, just make sure you are in a 5.1 audio project.

Not sure about the 4 channel, not sure how it's implemented in the cam. You can try the 5.1 project with the capture app, but I have a feeling that Scenalyzer is your final answer.

Edited: Found this little ditty:
"The only way to get playback of the four-channel audio is to use Sony’s VAIO Click to DVD burning software. We couldn’t test it because the software isn't out yet, but we will as soon as it becomes available." Source: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Sony-DCR-HC1000-Camcorder-Review.htm

Although that was 2004, I would think the software was out by now. Sounds like you need to go straight to DVD first for full 4 channel. I would google some more if I were you to see what the current solution is.

Yeah, I've been googlin' my butt off and did find the review with the remarks you quoted. I'm waiting on the 4 channel microphone I bought on Ebay and when it gets here I'll do some test video/audio and then try to import it into a project with a 5.1 buss. I've got both Vegas Video 7 and Adobe Premier Pro 2 so hopefully one of them will be able to decipher the audio from the DCR-HC1000. I really appreciate your responses.
