Sony Certified Vegas Editor (SCVE) Test

I wasn't going to ask this here 'cause it's not exactly Vegas-related, but so long as this thread is still going anyhow....

Anyone know why I can open the SCVE logo files (the EPS ones, not the ones on the forum) in Photoshop but not in any other imaging apps that can open other EPS files just fine? And is there anything that I can do to be able to open them in, say, Paint Shop Pro or even open them in Photoshop and save them as regular EPS files so I can open those in Paint Shop Pro?

The error PSP gives me is, "This Postscript file is either invalid or uses unsupported features." Pretty sure that the latter is the case, but I'm not sure what features are getting in the way or how to strip just those out.

I could just open them in Photoshop and save them as really big PNGs, but I'd like to find another solution if I can. (I have access to Photoshop, but I do not actually have Photoshop.) Tried saving them as regular EPS files, but can't figure the right settings to get it to work right. I usually end up with a rastor-based image with no transparency.

I am, indeed. I've been hesitant to get the Corel-ized version. ;-) I suppose I could download the trial and see if it warrents upgrading. If it'll let me open the logos, all the better.

I'd still be curious to know what sets them apart from the EPS files I can already open.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Edit: Downloaded the PSPX trial, and it opened the files. Weird. Then from there, I saved one to a new EPS file (albeit, a flattened one without transparency), which I can open in PSP9.

What advantage is there in becoming a skeivy (SCVE) person?

A good question that has been discussed in some other threads.
As i mentioned in those does it make you a better editor, it depends on what your skills are before going into the class. Will it make a difference to my clients? possibly. does it add some addtional crediblity , for me yes it does. In the marine field i have alot of certifications like ABYC, Onan, Capt's lics..blah blah these do lend credibilty to people in that field,.As I have merged my talents of both fields into a business relies on the expertise and knowlege in both profffessions, it helps to have these on both sides.
Just as they know it takes a certian level of skill and knowlege to aquire those marine certifications , this is one way they understand that I have met a certian bar of skills for editing, and have taken it seriously enough to seek training and learn those skills. They dont need to know or care what Vegas is per se' , but the Sony portion is something they may recognize. It helps convey that I'm not just a Yacht guy who messes around with video up front, then the proof is in my work.
Does that make sense, i dont know that I am conveying completely.
Does it give you anything in the editing field that you couldnt without it, well no its not like if your not PADI cert you wont get your tank filled.
You Im sure know that just because you pass a cert doesnt make you a great diver, but on the same hand I'm sure your if you dove with a couple of people you never met before and had no idea of thier skills. and one said he is certified and the other said nope Im not but im good. You might feel a little more comfortable with the PADI guy , at least until you saw there skills.
maybe not the greatest analogy but....

Its also the start of becoming something that is desired though, just as AVID cert is desired for AVID editors, this is to move Vegas towards that .

Check out the other posts I think DSE puts it best.

Thanks for your explanation Eric. I wouldn't mind paying the $800 if I could be confident of a <6 month ROI. Since video production is only part of my business services, it will probably take much longer because I do only a fraction of volume that a full video production house would do.

I like to think I am pretty proficient w Vegas and most of it's functions. Not an expert like the SVCT's , but to the point where many things covered in the seminars I already know. However, I can honestly say that every VASST class I have ever attended I has always done a few things. One being the fact of even going over the basics of Vegas brings back even some of the rudementary things I had forgotten it does or can do. Additionly , be it Jeffery,Spot, Keith, Vic, ALWAYS teach me at the very least one new thing (most the time many more )that imeadiately clicks that I know will save me time as soon as I put it to practice, will the ROI be instant, no but over time Ive paid back thise classes 3 fold .

Learned alot from Jeff in Orlando I even passed the test. Great Job Jeff. I was going to get a tatoo of a shrimp on my thumb so I could make him swim. But I beleive I will get the SCVE Logo on my thumb for a thumbs up for the vasst guys that did the training. I will have to post a video somewhere when I get it done.
