Digital8 is a format developed by Sony that records a DV signal to 8mm video tape, rather than to the miniDV tape used by miniDV cameras. The data stream coming out of the Firewire port on the camcorder is the same; only the recording medium is different.

I have, on many occasions, transferred DV from my miniDV camera to a friend's Digital8 camera, and vice-versa. No difference.

i've got one, but i've never gone back out to tape. but, i agree. the only difference is the medium it records on (and the price of that medium!)

it's the same zeros and ones that go on minidv.

I use Digital8 all the time and it works fine on my Sony TRV730 camera. You should check your IEEE 1394 card to make sure it is compliant. I never have any problems whatsoever so I know it works. I really like the D8 format.

I too use Digital8 extensively with my Sony TRV520. In fact just about every clip I take is copied to VV3.0c where the junk is removed (forgot to turn the camera off, etc), rendered then copied back onto Digital tape. Have never had a copying problem. Wish I could offer some useful advice, except to say there does not appear to be anything inherently wrong with the process.

..been using the 740...great camera...back to tape no problemo...check your connections...loose wires are common...connectors suck...

Concerning your firewire card, make sure it is OHCI IEEE 1394 compliant.
I use the Sony TRV720 and love it. Are you using an Internal hard drive and is it 7200rpm?

I´ve got a Sony dig 8 TRV 430 and have no problems either.
Another thing with certain dig 8 models which is great, they have both dig and analog in possibilities.
You don´t need a capture card with analog possibilities to digitize analog material.
You can connect a VCR (analog signal)to the cam and get a dv signal (digital signal) out from cam (fire wire)to your computer simultanesley (spelling?) without having to record to dig 8 tape first.

It could be your computer also (too many background programs running).

You shouldn't have any problems sending to tape with a fire wire cable/card, but you will have problems if you are transfering via USB.
