Sony DRU-500 (internal) and Pyro 1394 Drive ?

Well, I did it! I did it!

Finally found a Sony +/- DVD Burner at CompUSA. Have been looking for the external one like for forever, but finally gave up and settled on the Internal version instead (I have a laptop). Got the Pyro 1394 Drive Enclosure to run it in, too.

The salesguy promised me they'd play well together without fighting, but I seem to have a nagging memory of reading about some issues with them (did a SEARCH in here but couldn't turn-up anything concrete).

Which prompts three questions:
1) Has anyone encountered problems with this combination? If so, what? And, were there any solutions? (ok, ok, so it's going to be more than 3 questions, sorry)
2) What seem to be the most compatible types (+/-) and brands of media?
3) Haven't looked at the directions yet (I'm a guy), but on the way home the thought occured to me: "What happens if I try to burn a DVD-project (ie, MPEG-2) onto a cd-blank." Will it be just a shortened-DVD project? Will it even work?

Thanks!
"Burn, Baby, Burn!"

I use both of these in my setup (DRU-500 internal and Pyro 1394). I have had no problems. I have used some no-name brand for my DVD-R and just to test used Memorex for my DVD+R/+RW. It has ran flawless on 2 differant machines. I have to date burned over 90 DVD's with this.

I also use the Pyro to swap with a 80gb Western Digital HD, so I'm in the market for another PYRO. What kind of prices have you been seeing on them. I paid $100 at Circit City in Nov.

That's great news to hear, TNP. Thanks for the feedback.

I've been kinda hesitant to tear open the boxes for fear I'd have to take them back, and then get caught in the "Well, they're used now, so we have to charge you a re-stock fee" endless-loop.

Yeah, the Pyro-box is the same price at CompUSA. Take a look at the WD 120G external HD on-sale at CompUSA, I think it was like $199 after rebates.

CompUSA, that great Mexican company, has Maxtor 200GB 7200RPM 8MB drives on sale starting yesterday (I think for two weeks), at a net price after all rebates, of $199.99 plus uncle sam's grift. The price included a PCI ATA133 HD Controller Card capable of handling up to 4 drives.
