Sony DV Cameras and Sonic Factory Print to Tape

I have gone thru the forums for Vegas and Video factory-
despite SF's insistence that it's NTSC DV codec should
work,it clearly does not. I have captured avi files from
Sony, and then tried to save using SF's NTSC DV option and
it's no go. I then used ULEAD's program to capture and save
and sony recognized it. When I tried to open a Sonic
Factory NTSC DV avi file I get the message only NTSC DV
type 1 files will eork. Apparently SF renders files as NTSC
DV type 2. I like Sonic Foundry but if it only saves files
in a format that won't print to tape, I'm not going to
recommend investing in Vegas for myself or anyone else I
know unless a patch is posted. Thanks. JHF.

Greetings.

I have a Sony Digital8 Camera and a SIIG FireWire card. I
have had zero problems capturing video and zero problems
printing to tape. I use the SF Capture program for both
capture and print to tape. I use Video Factory to render
the files I print to tape.

The SF Capture will capture files to Type 2 DV format.
Videofactory can render files in a number of different
formats.

When you render a file:

1. make sure save as type is .AVI
2. make sure the template is NTSC DV (unless you have a PAL
camera)
3. If you think you may have changed the template by
accident, click on the CUSTOM button.
4. Click on the VIDEO tab at the bottom of the dialog.
5. Check video format and make sure it is NTSC DV (or PAL
for a PAL camera)

Hope this helps.
