sony dvd cam and Vegas Movie Studio

I've captured my video from my Handycam using the Sony Handycam software and now I'm trying to use Vegas Movie Studio to create a custom DVD. I have no problem importing the media file (mpeg) and dragging it into the timeline under video, the problem is there is no audio coming through. How do I work around this issue? Is it the file type? Do I need to convert my mpeg file into another format?

Thanks for the help and support.

When you drag and drop your media onto the TL do you see the audio appear on it's own track?
In MovieStudio you get three sound tracks on start up as default.
"Voice", "Music" and "Sound Effects"
Are you getting that too?

BTW, isn't there a seperate Forum for MS? Not that you aren't welcome here but you might find more users of that program over there?

thanks for the reply. im a newcomer to "forums".

I don't get a seperate track for audio. The tyracks, are you referring to Voice, Music, and Sound Effects? I get them but empty on the TL, when i drag and drop. I'll look for the other Forum, just wasn't sure the message would post.
thanks.

Common issue. Those DVD handycamsare the worst type of format to edit from (in Vegas/Moviestudio anyway). Normal reaction to posts like yours is (take a deep breath)... take the camera back and get a proper Mini-DV camera.

The particular issue you have is that the audio is in .AC3 and Vegas cannot edit that format. There ARE ways to convert it to something that Vegas can edit... BUY in the end... the total experience of editing MPEGS in Vegas/Moviestydio (currently) is going to be less than perfect.

There are MANY MANY threads here about this very issue. Doing a search will find this. Look for "DVD Handycam" or something like that and you'll get more help.
