Which OS are you using?

I have the same burner in a P3 - 650 running Windows 98SE. The one problem that I did have was buffer underrun, but once I added more RAM, it went away and has worked flawlessly ever since.

The DW-U10A is a dual format drive, so it should recognize both +R/RW and -R/RW media.

When I bought my drive (which is an OEM drive and not supported by Sony), it came with a CD with some burning software on it. If you also got a CD with the extra software, does that software work or does all software fail to recognize your media?

I also use the same Drive, with XP home and have not had any trouble. With XP there were no drivers or anything to install. One thing I did though was run a small executable that changed it from a U10A to a 500A. It was a little scary but worked fine. Since then I have been using Sony,s firmware upgrades for the 500 with no problems. I can't remember where I got the program from but a little time with google should find it.
