HD?

Just remarkable technology! The download is 200mb .. . well worth it. Creatures just doing their thing in a Zoo . .. I have absolutely nothing to do with it! Somebody else's work . . .

. . .really, I think I'll give up! The shot with the Penguins and the blue water . . very special .. . and you can see ants scurrying about ..

Grazie [ no I wont!]

Then there's...

...And the beginnings of my little HD Project:

And these are relatively low-res .wmv files!

Clearly, HDV is an entirely new medium.

He sure had a nice day out.

Nice video and every shot completely static. Not a pan, tilt or zoom in sight. And the same cross dissolve used throughout.

Makes me feel like expediting my Z1 purchase!

Yes Nick!

It is the value of the "depth" or layer being created that gets my juices running - all that lovely colour quality and options for DoF . . . . hmmmm... some serious thinking [ £££££ ] going on here in London . . .

I want to see "movement" examples. As you say static . ..

Grazie, I searched back through the posts to try to find something for you. See:

Subject: Actual raw HDR-FX1 footage posted

Kaku Ito in Tokyo has posted some raw footage taken with the new Sony HDR-FX1 HDV camera. The files can be downloaded here:

http://www.hdvinfo.net/media/kakugyo/

The thread where he discusses the footage can be found here:

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33865

The thread suggests that the motion artifacts everyone has been worried about simply aren't a problem. I haven't downloaded the files yet, so I have no comment.

The motion question worried me while making up my mind and I looked critically at various examples posted. Having got the camera I'm very happy with it. Bought from GlobalMediaPro at a nice price and service.

Be careful of their pricing, it looks attractive but add in freight, insurance and local charges such as VAT or GST and import duty and it may not be as good a deal, still cheaper than you might buy if you look hard locally but not that much.
Also depending on where you live watch out for the warranty issue as you are buying a grey import and it's pretty likely that local Sony support will not.

Good warnings. However Global are in London so for Grazie those issues should be less of a worry (but have to be taken into account). Down here NZ and Aust are lumped under Sony warranty. Australian retail prices for the Sony FX1E have recently dropped to the point where the difference between buying locally and buying from Global NZ (with added VAT, Customs and transport) is now marginal.
