I saw this, too. Looks like the parent company is hurting... hope they don't start jettisoning smaller (Madison-based) parts.

Does anyone know how Sony Media Software is doing as a division? Is there a link to an annual report, somewhere?

What's sensational is that a caucasian anglo CEO is in charge of Sony.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts it's the #1 topic that all Japanese managers are talking about... it's unheard of for a Westerner to be in charge of a Japanese company, especially a large one like Sony.

No more keiretsu!

Stringer loves Vegas--he edits all his home videos with it! We are in luck. Seriously, Sony has major problems and for them to tap into another country to hire someone is pretty revealing.

division that vegas is part of and whole picture div. doing so so ....

That's great news if he uses Vegas personally! How did you learn that?

Grazie worked with Stringer for serveral years, teaching his the complexties of Vegas. If Stringer makes it as an editor, he has only Grazie to thank! The Brits are amazing!

Sounds like the guys at Sony Pictures should start hanging around on this forum. I think most of us could have predicted these were going to be stupid movies.

Sony does not want to repeat TI's errors in the 70's. Marketing must lead in the product challenges from MS and intertainment business. Eng. is great but you must not let the competitors beat you by marketing better ads and better distr. Many eng.. CEO's were slow to catch on that a great product does not sell automaticly, you need serious marketing to reach thru all the noise in the maeket place to catch the consumers' attn and $.

Sony is, primarily, an electronics designer and builder sorta company. The fact that so much of their revenue is wrapped up in the entertainment biz, ie movies and musica, has to gall some folks at Sony.

It will be interesting to see how he attacks the BluRay-RedRay fiasco.

Yes, the bluray issue is a hot button, but eng.. has remove most of the need on a shell. A rumor has a number of cameras coming out with bluray tech soon. Expect to see cheap players, similar to the DL tech approach. Sony at first did not want dual technology,blu/red, players. Expect Sony to play hard ball in the marketing area. Do not expect Sony to Hardball Apple software directly. Do not be surprise if Sony starts a high end product with Apple and IBM using the new "cell" technology. Look for Sony to "face-off" MS media center using the above group.
