Sony GV-D200

When I play back some of my friends 8mm tapes 7 out of ten play perfectly and the other 3 have two interference horizontal lines (3/4" wide along the bottom third of the picture. The top 2/3s of the picture is locked in like a rock as is the rest of the picture and the horizontal interference. The sound is also mushy garbled. There is no tracking adjust that I can see on the Sony unit. The bad tapes capture just fine (with the interference lines) through firewire or analog through the ADVC-300. The Filters on the 300 do not change anything. Switching on DNR or TBR in the sony unit make no difference. Are these tapes bad or what?

Found the problem. My Guru buddy came over and looked at the defective tapes and found that the recording device had head guides out of alignment causing the tape to furl over itself during recording effectively only using about 90% of the tape.
