Sony HC1 as external monitor

Happy boxing day all,
I know many of you use HC1s and A1s. I'd like to use it as a pass through for a secondary monitor.

I have it hooked up via firewire, then component out to the monitor; everything is set to DV.

When I preview in Vegas, I can see it on the camera LCD but not the monitor. When I am in record mode, I can see what the lens sees on the monitor, but the camera won't take the firewire signal.

I just want to go firewire to component through the camera. What am I missing?

A while ago, I had the same idea to use my A1 as a bridge.

You do not miss anything, it's just it won't work as we wish: feeding signal to firewire works well but there's no routing/conversion to any of the video outputs.
