Sorry for the noob question I have searched several places on the internet and all the help file I can find. I have a hdr-hc7 with tapes recorded in HD. I have Vegas platinum 9.0. I use a fire wire to get the videos off my camera, but I cannot seem to get good quality from it. If I play it through my camera into the tv it is great (AV wires), but I try to but it on my computer and it is grainy. I try to make a dvd and it gets worse.

I have tried to pull it off with HDV Split, vegas capture, windows capture and nothing every looks good. I have tried with i.Link on and off both look about the same to me.

I am running vista 32 with quad core 2.4GHz and 3 gigs of ram.
I am not looking to get HD quality I just want to be able view the video not pixilated.
What am I doing wrong?

I have the same camera and I download using the Sony supplied import from tape program and it looks fine. You're sure you have your VCR HDV/DV setting on your camera is set to HDV and not DV?

Have you tried viewing them using the Sony Picture Browser program? You should get pretty nice picture using it. I assume watching other videos on line are fine?

Your finished DVD is not going to look as good as hooking your camera directly to your TV but it should not be pixilated.

If you want you can go to Vimeo and search for "Killarney Provincial Park" you see a video shot using the same type of camera. Keep in mind it's not on the HD portion of the site.

You probably don't use the right project properties. Make sure they are correct, otherwise the footage will be resized down.
