I know there hasent been enough time to review the Sony HDV, but i need to make a purchase for our local Film Society. Since both cameras are in the same price bracket, which one should i purchase for a Film society. We will use it mostly for video "film making", and it will have a lot of use from amateurs, to profesionals (or so we call ourselfs)
thanks

See above?
Difficult call I'd say.
However the DVX 100 is a nknown entity, you can edit the footage on most systems, it does 24pA and I'm certain it can be had for a pretty good price around now. Also there's a host of film type add ons, matte boxes, follow focus gear etc and you do get balanced audio in.
Probably what you should be comparing is the pro version of the HDV camera to the DVX 100. Then the price difference becomes quite significant.
Having looked at the footage just posted it looks pretty stunning but bear in mind there's no fast motion which is the bane of mpeg-2 encoding. I've no doubt HDV is going to cause the ground to move under us and we'd better be ready for it. like it or not. But that said there's still lots of excellent footage being shot on long obsolete SP cameras.
After all it's not what you shoot it on that counts, it's what you shoot!
Bob.

Go to the forum at www.DVXusers.com. The new Cannon GL2 and Sony's HD Cam have some discussion there worth reading. Just got my DVX100a yesterday. Got a lot of new things to learn.
