Sony hot shoe adapter

I'm getting a Sony HC3 from a friend for only a couple hundred $ for a 3rd camera just for miscellaneous background shots, but I realize that there is no external mic input. It's not essential get a mic as I won't usually need the audio track, but it'd be nice in an emergency. Can't find a VMCK100 mic adapter online to save my life (well, a few countries in Europe have them via ebay but the total cost to get to USA isn't worth it). Anyone know of another solution to either run a mic off the hot shoe or....?

You could try getting a Sony ECM-HGZ1 hotshoe mic for around $50 and caniballizing it, it should be pretty easy to figure out how to wire a 1/8" stereo jack into it, though it looks like the mic is mono. The ECM-HST1 is stereo but costs about twice as much. Of course, you might be better off with Euro eBay at that price....

This is what you're looking for - it works great on my HC7's

Cliff,
Thanks for the link, but that doesn't appear to be "hot," is it? Quote from the DM-Accessories link: "Please note that this is only a mechanical adapter. AIS-FLAT will not pass audio, flash signals or other electrical signals between the camcorder and mounted device."

ahh - I missed your wanting the hot shoe. I don't think there is such a beast - is there??? I use this strictly to mount my shotgun mic or wireless lav receiver on camera.

Too bad about the VMC-K100. I bought 10 of them when I bought my HC-3 last year, thinking they would be scarce. Tried listing 9 of them on eBay, not a single taker, so I returned them to B&H. Looks like NOW they would be worth something...

The only place that has carried them has been B&H, and from the reviews it looks like they had them until very recently. I do know in the past B&H has often said they were no longer available, only to have them plentiful later on. You might call them to see what the story is this time.

Riredale,
I did see a lot of reviews re B&H; I'll give them a call. The only reason I could see Sony not producing them anymore is due to the new models with mic inputs. I sure could have used one of your 9 K100's!

Okay, Riredale,
Just to make you feel worse, here's an ebay posting for a K100 for http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190213074237&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123$100[/link] and the auction isn't even nearly over.
