Sony HVR MRC1K

Does anyone here have any knowledge of using this? Is Vegas one of the NLE's that seamlessly join the fat32 files together? I notice that Sony have plug-ins for FCP Here:

No mention of Vegas. Can it be used with my Canon XH-A1 cams? I can't see why not, but hopefully someone will have some experience of it.

If you meant HVR-MRC1 then yes, used that unit with a Z5 as a B cam on a couple of shoots.
V9 and later will join the split clips seamlessly via Device Explorer.

Just be careful, by default Vegas will ingest the clips into a folder under My Documents which is probably not where you want them.

Thanks for the info Bob. Did you have to manually start/stop the recording?

I have the MRC and Vegas 9 and 10.
I have always used Sony's RU_UTIL.EXE utility to download the files from the CF card to explorer...then I open it up in Vegas and put the clips on the timeline.
This method has never failed me.

I do remember that one time I was on-site, I just downloaded the files from the CF card straight into vegas and the audio was a bit off when playing thru VLC (or was it windows players). Not sure what was the cause, so I always play safe with the mini utility.

You can just google ru_util.exe and get the file.

Hope that helps.

No, the Z5 and Z7 support the unit completely via a number of options e.g. syncro record, relay record or external only.

My V1U also controls the HVR MRC1K. I don't think you can control it with a Canon, you would have to use the manual record button which is fairly small.

Yes, it's becoming apparent that the pause/record wouldn't be synced to the camera, which is a no no for me. Bit of a shame. Would have thought Sony would be a bit more forward thinking and made it to sync with any camera - as with a Quickstream or Firestore unit.

Outside of the Sony cameras that it is designed to work with I'd not really recommend it.
It physically latches to them and connects without cables. It does have a dock so you can use it with camera that has a firewire port but meh, as you say, there's better units around.
On the Sony cameras the unit gives you not just start/ stop record but also time remaining indication in the camera viewfinder.
