Sony Noise Reduction 2.0 plugin and Vegas Pro 9b

TeetimeNC wrote on 10/14/2009, 3:40 PM
Is this plugin working for anyone else in 9b? I understand that it won't work in 64bit, but I can't get it to go in 32bit. It does work fine in Soundforge 7 and Vegas 8.

When I run it in 9 it never switches to processing mode. In fact, I don't even see the processing tab. Anyone else experiencing this?

It is not a plugin that is normally applied in realtime.

Geoff, I'm not sure of your point. AFAIK, all audio plugins are non-realtime. But you still use the plug-in to create a new audio take that has (in this case) the noise reduction applied. This works fine in Vegas 8, just not in Vegas 9b.

yes and no, jerry.

yes, you need to use noise redux non-realtime. make a copy of the original in a new audio track. rt-click and use "apply non-real-time event fx," mute the original. this is destructive editing in the sense that the copy has been altered after the fx has been applied. that's why you need to keep the original in case you need to go back to it.

no, most audio fx can be applied realtime. in fact, vegas by default puts several fx on each audio track. you can change this default, i forget how, search this forum for instructions.

i use busses - one for dialog, on for music, one for fx... i may apply different fx to each bus. if i don't need fx on the busses, i generally use fx on the master bus. i have the izotope mastering plug-ins that came with SF9. i typically use the mastering limiter, multiband compressor and mastering reverb (just a tad).

when vegas is playing back, it is applying any fx you use, track and/or bus, in realtime.

David, I think you are missing a key feature of Vegas and this plugin. In Vegas 8, if you add the Noise Reduction effect to an audio clip it takes you to the plugin where you craft the reduction. When you save and exit the plugin it creates a NEW wave file and inserts it as a new take in the original event. Your original source and the new take are both there under the list of takes. You can revert back to the original at will. I have some that have a string of 5 or more takes before I get it exactly like I want it. Eventually I delete all the intermediate takes but always leave the original source and final take in the project.

But none of this isn't working in 9b.

"Save and exit the plugin" - what is that ?

Do you mean you are applying the plugin to the track, and choosing "Render To New Track" ?

Or are you "Open Copy In Audio Editor" , and the new track isn't showing in V9 when you save that from the editor ( Sound Forge ?) ???

Both methods work for me., with NR2 and other plugins. What versions , and/or audio editor ?

Geoff, thanks for your reply. Here would be the steps I follow if just accepting all defaults:

1. Right click on audio track and choose "Apply non-realtime event fx".
2. Select (Sony) "Noise Reduction" from list.
3. Plugin launches with "Take:00000" in upper left corner.
4. Select "Capture noiseprint" and click Ok.
5. Apply Non-Real-Time Event FX dialog appears with default File name: 00000 Take2.wav.
6. Click "Save"
7. Dialog appears "Processing to 00000 Take2.wav".
8. When returned to Vegas timeline, right click on the audio track and select "Takes". You will see Take 1 is the original footage, Take 2 is 00000 Take2.wav.

As I noted earlier, this works exacty as above in Vegas 8, but is not working for me in Vegas 9b. I am using NR2.0.

Just tried with NR2 and Vol , works exactly as expected for both on mine ( though I didn't do the 'Noiseprrint' step - just processed unadjusted but chose to 'keep the noise' so I would see the obvious big difference.).

Will try your exact process when I get a moment !

Geoff, not sure what Vol is (unless you're talking Tennessee football ;-) ). Are you trying it on Vegas Pro 9b?

Sony Volume plugin (to give very obvious display of effect having been applied !).

Wow. I learned something. Never tried this method.

But question ...
When would this be more appropriate than using noise reduction through the track FX?

Thanks.
