SONY: Obscured Vegas Render Window?

Grazie wrote on 6/11/2004, 1:13 AM
If this has been mentioned previously, apologies.

Having 2 LCD screens, the rendering Window sits astride the central postion. Any chance in next V5 build that this Alert window is either offset OR better floatable OR better still, have Vegas "know" I've got a duallie system and it finds a place "other" than the middle of the setup?

Best regards,

Grazie

I think pop menus seem to disregard the window boundaries as well. When I right click on an event, if the event is near the right edge of screen, the popup menu straddles 2 monitors. Any one has found a workaround for this?

I know it's a tiny point in the grand scheme of things, but i really wish that render progress window could be moved. It's a silly little thing, but it would bring me immense personal joy* to be able to place it wherever i wanted it to be instead of it being stuck there in the upper middle section of the screen.

The odd thing is that it takes extra effort to create a window that can't be moved. It's easier for the programmers to leave it movable. So this makes me wonder what the reasoning was for disabling movement.

*well, immense on the scale of silly little things, anyway

If you reverse your usage and put vegas on the second LCD prior to rendering, does the rendering follow vegas? Some programs center on desktop and others center over application. Worth a try.

Yes sir, especially for those of us who switch between 2 PCs on one monitor, it would be really nice to be able to drag the rendering progress window over to the 2nd monitor to keep an eye on the progress instead of having to switch back and forth to check....not a real big deal though since I usually spend that time here : )

This isn't a Vegas issue, it's a video card driver issue (and not really an issue anyway.) If you have a dual-head card from Matrox or a card based on the Nvidia chipset, you can set the set the drivers to treat the two monitors as two separate displays, not a single, double-wide display. You can then use the desktop management features of the drivers to make the pop-up windows appear in the center of either display. I'm sure ATI has tweaks in their driver software to do this as well, but I don't have an ATI card and don't know that for certain.

The render window goes away too. You can still see the progress in the minimize task (at least under XP).
