Sony Platinum 9 Artifacting

Greetings,

I do not understand what is happening. After importing a video file (with stereo audio) from my Canon HV-20, I can hear an apparent artifacting of the audio. By this, I mean a digital distortion at a high frequency around my spoken words. It is not overwhelming, but it is relentless! I do NOT have the noise reduction filter on, although this sounds kind of like when that filter is over-driven. I HAVE tried band and shelf filtering. This sound can not be heard if I copy my .wav file into Windows Media Player or an external sound editor, but IS present upon the final rendering into a high definition .avi file. You can hear two samples, posted on the Internet. The first has some apparent artifacting. The second has none that I can tell. I appreciate any recommendations, as I do not know what has caused this new wrinkle.

http://www.flashpastyoureyes.com/ADVProjector/videos/video15.html - sounds like a buzzing/quacking duck speaking along with me.

http://www.norcalis.com - I know there is music, but I hear no buzzing.

Thanks to any audio wizard who can help - Baran

Well, it's not a problem with your Sony application, so put your mind at ease. If you hear some artifacting in the Vegas preview, be forgiving, as it may be your audio buffers.

Both FLV files you linked to include 96kbs MPEG-1 audio. That bitrate using the delivery format is not minimally acceptable for internet delivery, in my opinion.

Suggest you start over, and encode your audio at an appropriate bitrate and delivery format. In other words, if I "had" to us MPEG audio as a delivery format, my average bitrate would be a minimum of 192Kbs. AAC/AC3 audio is much better at lower bitrates. The rest is up to you . . .
