hope they don't try to make it wait for vista. They said with v6 that they won't wait for win64 & want it to be proven first & I don't think windows 64-bit has been proven yet (it obiviously hasn't replaced XP pro even thouse all new systems are 64-bit compatible).
As for the name, they'll do like what everyone else is doing: add a word on the end to make it a better version (we all know that the name ofthe product determines how usefull & feature rich it is. Heck, "premiere" just screems "i'm the best damn NLE ever & you don't even need to test me first!" "Final Cut Pro" screams "use me & you'll never need to use another NLE to doanything again! Look at my name: F I N A L CU T P R O. I wouldn't make my name be a marketing scheme, would i?)
Vegas Elite!
and to appear to the younger computer "savy" generation, a slightly cheaper version called "Vegas 733t"
New Slogan - "What plays in Vegas stays in Vegas". Promoting that you can do full production work in vegas and not need third party tools.
And in direct reversal from the above statement, the following add-ons are added (since they are Sony branded marketing says its ok). Besides they can get a bunch more money selling us these nice products.
"Pimp my Video". A collection of over the top transistions and effects, that will be sure to draw attention away from the video and to just how much bling you can add.
"Hold my Hand" A tool to take all your locked down shots and give them that hand-held feel that is so popular with reality video.
"Boom da Boom Boom" A new set of audio effects to give you sound that room shaking bass. Even at low volumes you will be able to crack the plaster in your walls.
"Music Faker" The need for good music is filled by this wonderful tool. Just download your favorite song or rip it off a CD. Feed it in and Music Faker will analyze the song and re-create a song from Acid Loops (available seperately) that sounds similar to the input song, but different enough to keep you from being taken to court.
"Who Dunnit" Vegas has always had problems credits. Not any more, over 15,000 different credit layouts borrowed from the Sony film libary. All the samples are complete with names filled in for all postions in the original film. Just substitute your names and your done. A typical template contains almost 1000 names, talk about flexible. Give credit for the actor who played Dr. Joe, or the actress who play Aunt Sue. (Note: Items cannot be removed from templates in this version, if your film does not have a character of Aunt Sue, try another template).
"Be Your Best" Is there a director who's style you like. Now you can create films just like theirs with Be Your Best. Simply choose the genre and director. Select your raw footage and click on Oscar your helpful digital assistant. Bing, bang zap and your film looks like Altman, Bergman, Burton, Cameron, Cassavetes, Coppola ... the list goes on and on. New director's styles will be available for purchase as fast as we can mimic them.
"Hollywood Film Cost". This plugin will analyze video on the timeline then add $20,000,000(US) to your budget as "misc production items".
A side note: For a dvd of home movies I recently compiled, I was able to get around the "Who Dunnit" template restriction by legally changing my parents names to Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor.
I don't think they'll need to wait for Vista. Much of what they'll need to shoot for is pretty well defined, like the versions of directX that cards must support, etc. And Microsoft did announce that they'd support both HDDVD and BlueRay. I'm just going to assume that they'll announce V7 when they usually do, around NAB. There's no law that says they have to release anything by then, but they usually do.
I don't think there'll be a name change, nor will there be other sub or super versions of Vegas. A Suite package, yes, but no "Pro" version.
These are all easy predictions. The harder stuff is what the actual features are going to be and I assume there will be some leverage off of Acid. It's just hard to predict where Vegas will go. There have been quite a few features added that ought to be refined (Nested sequences, for instance) and other things that need focus, like HDV specific issues.
Vegas Elite? Considering how many Reds use Vegas, and how they use the word so much in their propaganda, you'll never see the word in Vegas' name.
Remember that time on the Simpsons when Burns is showing Homer his specatular house. Each room has something better than the last. He opens the door and there is a room full of monkeys in sweater vests drinking coffee hunched over typewriters
BURNS
This is a thousand monkeys working at a thousand typewriters. Soon, they'll have written the greatest novel known to mankind. (reads one of the typewriters) "It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times"?! Get back to work, you idiot!
