I just received the following message from my IT administrator:
"Hello everyone. There is a virus going around that claims to be a approval request for a business magazine. There is an executable file attached.
Please remember not to download or execute any files from email sources here at work. If you receive an email asking you to download and execute an attachment, please delete it immediately.
This virus takes advantage of the Sony/BMG “rootkit”
that is installed when you listen to a Sony or BMG music label CD on your computer. This “rootkit” allows any file to be hidden on your system without your knowledge. If you insert a music CD in your computer and you are asked to click Accept on any license agreements, please click Cancel and do not install the music player software.
Thank you for your attention to this issue."
It's my understanding that California and New York have just filed suit against SONY to stop this.
