Sony's 2007 Stop Cyberbulling PSA Contest

I'm not eligible nor do I have the right gear and probably many of us here may not be eligible either.
Yet this may be of interest to those of you who do have and/or work with children.

You could approach your child/children's school and potentially get some nice new Sony goodies for the school. Some well-known directors and industry pros are on the panel of judges, too.

All this hinges on if/when you'd have the time to do so, of course.
But it's an honorable move by Sony, IMO.

So I figured I'd put up this post about it.

I'm all for it too - I have a friend who has been heavilly abused on the internet - it is has really taken its toll on her over the past 2 years.

It's such a nasty, cowardly thing by thee people who have no second thoughts for the victims - even the "typical" 13yr/old from around the other side of the world does damage without knowing it. And it does not just affect children either - my friend is hardly a child now....

just out of curiosity, if you don't mind, why are you ineligible?

is there a reason you posted to inform people? There's a locked thread up above (wish it wasn't locked) by sony about it.

Granted, I skimmed through all the written materials, but the length of the spot never popped out at me. Doesn't it seem strange that this is not mentioned? I did notice that the contest is only for Canadians and Americans.

Sorry, I didn't notice the locked thread about this or it wasn't there at the time of my post -- my eyes don't usually go up there when I come here :)

As to eligibility, it seems that one has to have a direct connection with a school in some way. And at least a good camcorder. I don't have either at this point.

I just thought it was worth mentioing the socially-conscious project happening in "my" Sony backyard, so to speak.

Didn't mean to sound offensive (I did upon re-reading what I wrote), I was just wondering if there was more to the thread. :)

One Winner will be an independent producer and one Winner will be a School Group (as defined herein) Eligibility. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Contest open only to residents of the United States and Canada who are at least the legal age of majority for entering into contracts in the country and state in which you reside ("Legal Age"). Void in Quebec. No purchase necessary. You may enter as part of a K-12 school group ("School Group") provided that (a) you have a school advisor/teacher that is of the Legal Age that will be the "School Group+ Representative" for the applicable School Group, (b) each member of a School Group complies with these Official Rules and provides the Sponsors with the requisite releases, (c) each person that is younger than the applicable Legal Age has parent or legal guardian consent for such participation and (d) the School Group Representative completes the Submission Form on behalf of the School Group. Employees, officers, directors, agents and representatives of the Sponsors and their respective parent companies, affiliates and subsidiaries, and immediate family members of any of the foregoing, are not eligible to enter the Contest.

there are specific rules for the school group. Basically, if you live in the US/Canada (minus Quebec) you can get in. Me & my dad are planning on making one. He's the security/safety coordinator at the school & I'm a video guy. He's got so much info on cyber bullying it's crazy. He's all excited too. I said if we win all I want is the HD camera & HD capture unit. He can have EVERYTHING else. :)

HappyFriar,

No problem, besides this is an un-locked thread about it serving its purpose.
Such as you stating:

"Me & my dad are planning on making one. He's the security/safety coordinator at the school & I'm a video guy. He's got so much info on cyber bullying it's crazy. He's all excited too. I said if we win all I want is the HD camera & HD capture unit. He can have EVERYTHING else. :)"

Good for you! This sounds like a perfect fit -- you have an in-family set consultant :)
Keep up us abreast of when you get to the final renders.

My only complaint is that it's America's only - no inclusion for Europe. Sony - we have cyber bullying over here too unfortunetely
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/21/2007, 6:13 PM
Odds are ad counsel is NA only. But you should bug Sony Europe for that.
