Sony & Updates

What I'd really really really like is for the update download page to show which files were actually updated.

An asterisk, bold type, something.

Meaning: do I have to download the manual again? Or is it still the same as the previous one? Media manager changed with new update to Vegas?

Stuff like that.

This goes for all the programs, not just Vegas. I just want to know if I have to download everything or not. Don't know how many times I've downloaded the acoustic mirror Impulse files. Probably a lot more times than necessary. :^)

if something is a newer version then what you have, then it's updated. if it's not a newer version then no. they didn't say they updated the manuals/mm/etc. so i wouldn't download.

Well, yeah. The major components, I know about. But, for instance, they've added some features in the new release. Was the manual updated to reflect them? Maybe. Maybe not...

But I'm sure there are times when an update will require an update to an ancillary program, like Media Manager, but they won't necessarily explicitly say that in the announcement...that I've seen.

Normally, I just download everything. I'm on a flatrate DSL, so it doesn't matter. But that may change soon.

i think they say if they updated the manual, not sure. but i've never re-downloaded it as the online help contains the same stuff.

I use Flashget. It's a free download manager and claims to have "the highest amount of users on the internet".

Regardless, one of it's many pleasant features is the ability to check for updates to files. Basically it remember things about what you've already downloaded. So, example: after reading this post I went to the download page and went to download the manuals. Flashget said that I might have already downloaded them (months ago) and asked if it should check to see if the files had been updated and/or modified. Since they had not, it did not download them. No real effort was required.

Cool. I'll give that a try. Thanks.
