For me, the "bug" relating to using JPEG's or PNG files in the timeline has been fixed in 9.0d ... I'm not sure this was your problem. I never had a problem with titles suddenly disappearing unless this was related to using JPEG's and PNG's along with AVCHD video.

I don't see the harm to giving 9.0d a try for yourself.
