Just wondering if anyone has compared vegas 9 to sonar 8.5 I am trying to make a decision on which one to buy? I like to use my midi key board when recording music… to me it looks like sonar have the better product when it comes to recording audio? What do ya’ll think?
Um - what do you want to do with your MIDI keyboard ? You can map it control various functions withing Vegas (Start, Stop, etc) but Vegas does not support VSTi or DXi, and only uses MIDI for control and synch purposes.
Try comparing Sonar to Acid for your purpose.
You COULD use Vegas with a stand-alone virtual synth, and an audio loopback 'device', but that's getting a bit clumsy. Yes, Acid is what you really should be looking at.
To be accurate, Vegas is a NLE (non-linear editor) and is referred to as such by Sony (SCS). A DAW (digital audio workstation) is more of a generic term and certainly could be applied to Vegas in a general way but most DAWs in the current market do include midi features and support. I agree that the better comparison to Sonar in terms of what Sony offers is certainly Acid Pro - not Vegas.
