Sony Vegas Hangs at Initializing UI

Hello All,
I am new to this forum and haven't been using Vista for very long but I am encountering a problem that I am hoping you will all be able to help me with.

I bought Sony Vegas 8 (not pro) and installed it on my Vista machine and everything installs fine. When I try to register I enter all of my information and it kept saying that the server could not complete the registration as requested. So i eventually just put in the optional register later code just to get it up and working until I could solve the registration issue.

After that, I go to start the program and the splash screen comes up and the loading bar loads until "Initializing UI" then it just stops and the program never opens and no errors pop up.

I have looked at other forums for this and have tried the following none of which worked:

-turn off DEP for this program only
-compatibility mode with Windows XP Service Pack 2
-updated Windows Updates and got the latest update of Sony Vegas 8c
-turned off Norton
-uninstalled the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and Sony Vegas then re installed both
-some other forums mentioned how Corel Products affected their sony vegas so I uninstalled that as well

Unfortunately I am not in a position to re install the operating system.
Also I have a friend that installed the exact same program on Windows 7 and everything worked fine.

Computer Information:
Model: HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 / 2.0 GHz
RAM: 4 GB DDR2
Graphics Card: Intel GMA 4500MHD
Anti-Virus: Norton

Thank You all for reading this far and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem. At first I thought it would not load up at all, and discovered that wasn't true.

Rewind a few years.

Laptop was VIsta, and I installed VMS ver 9, and upgraded to the latest (9.0d I think). After using it for 6 months or so, when starting up, the gray rectangle would appear with the Vega title, etc, and the lower left area would should what things are being loaded, but they'd stop after just a couple of items...and progress no further.

However, I discovered that if I moved the mouse back and forth, then other things would load, but stop if I stopped moving the mouse. Also, pressing the Windows button on and off would causes the loading to temporarily resume. I usually just used the mouse though. At least it would load.

It turned out to be what I claim is a registry or interrupt problem. After a couple of years, we got some bad virus/malware, whatever, and I couldn't fix it. I took it to Best Buy, and after they cleaned it up, VMS would load up right away. ANother quirk that went away - when copying or moving files in Windows Explorer, the copy/move window would not appear unless I pressed the Windows button. Again, an interrupt-type symptom.

Does yours load if you wiggle the mouse pointer? I know that sounds silly, but that's what I had to do to make it load up. And I think it only worked if the pointer was over the gray Title window while wiggling it.
