I carefully say it is the number of clips. I transcoded a 180 clips to DNxHD 220 10bit and tried to put as many as I can into a new project. Like Zayed, VP13 crashed somewhere around 50 clips. Since it crashed and I was unable to count the number of clips, I went into the folder where my DNxHD files are and counted the sfk files that where created.

This is the crash error report:

I reopened the project and like Zayed, the last few clips are "Media Offline" and no peaks.

Really "quirky".

Zayed: Have you tried XAVC Intra? It is 4:2:2 and does smart render but I am not sure how it works with other NLEs.

+1 old smoke - xavc intra.

i didn't read that the op needed to work with any other nle?

frankly i give anything to do with quicktime the widest berth possible.....

@usher

I started using XAVC-S since I got my FDR-AX100 and I love it. I use XAVC Intra as an Intermediate and for archiving, it even works well with Handbrake.

Now What I can understand that if I convert all my footage to XAVC Intra the Sony Vegas well do fine even I have a lots of clips ? Right ?

Is there a software to convert all my footage to XAVC Intra ?

XAVC Intra is high end format from Sony ?

How to get 4:2:2 from Chroma subsampling ? What type from Sony Vegas ?

Thank you a lots guys for help

You could use Vegas with Vegasaur to transcode all your clips to XAVC Intra. It is a high bit rate codec and 4:2:2. You can try it, it is part of VP12 and 13 but only smart renders in VP13. Just take a couple of clips and use Vegas to render it out to XAVC Intra and see how it works with other NLEs.
The issue with DNxHD or probably any Quicktime related footage only starts when you start adding the clips to the timeline. I can have as many DNxHD clips in my Project Media window. However, XAVC Intra requires more space then DNxHD depending on the format you chose.
Vegasaur makes it really easy to transcode footage and you don't even have to load the footage into a project, it can do external footage too.

I will try this after I deliver my project to my client

i've got the same thing with prores files from BMPC 4K.
think the limit was more around 30. it doesnt crash (vegas 12 was crashing), but it shows all the clips >30th as a black video.
sometimes it shows fine in the pool, and even on the timeline but when rendering out there's a whole black blocks from about half way through (funny tho if there're titles at the end, they're showing fine in the final video).

How did you fix it if you have more than 30 clips ?
redpaw wrote on 6/10/2014, 3:00 AM
not really... the work around i found was to create proxy files and work with them (you might need to create the proxies for the first 30 clips, then create different project, load another 30, create proxies and so on... after having proxy files for all you can open the main project and should have proxies working for all), and then export using mainconcept codec (sony avc was going black after a while, mainconcept was taking 5x longer but eventually got the whole video exported).
