It's defintitey FX OR Grafitti, not both together. I'd also endrose Spectralis' opinion of BorisFX as a company. Anyone have a view on whetehr to go for RED or BCC 7 (given that RED 5 will have better integration) if both are available for the same price?

I also have BCC7 which is a great suite of plugins that integrates perfectly with Vegas. It's good if you just want to load a plugin into Vegas without opening and working in a separate interface like RED. Have you tried the demo?

My preference, if I were to choose one, would be RED 5 because, it will have a much broader range of features than BCC7, it's compatible with both Vegas and AE (whereas you have to buy BCC7 for Vegas and AE separately) and you will be able to use AE plugins in Vegas via RED 5. RED 5 will be much more versatile and even if you don't have AE it will work with other NLE's if you decide to edit with something other than just Vegas in the future.

I'm not sure when the upgrade offer ends but I think RED 5 is out this week so try both the BCC7 and RED 5 demos to see which you prefer.

Thanks Spectralis. I guess Red 5 might be of most use to me. I've got the demo of Red 4 and BCC 7 - Obviously can't try Red 5 yet and am worried that the upgrade deal for $295 is likley to end in the next few days before Red 5 comes out.

The email I was sent by BorisFX doesn't mention a cut off date for the FX/Grafitti offer. It just says "last chance" to upgrade so I assume that could mean upgrade before RED 5 is out. Perhaps you could email BorisFx about when the deal ends. They usually respond quickly to enquiries.

RED 5.0 (5.0.0.325) is available of the Boris FX site. Unfortunately, it looks like we Vegas users will have to rund "stand alone" for a while, as there is no plug-in interface for Vegas Pro included in this version. The web site mentions something about "forthcoming updates" with Vegas support:

Free forthcoming software updates will add support for Sony Vegas Pro, Grass Valley EDIUS, and Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 for Mac.

Oh well, patience is a virtue...

Paul

The $295 upgrade offer form FX / Graffitti has now gone.

According to the Red 5.0 Release Notes, it appears we'll have to wait until Vegas Pro 10.0d is available for host plug-in support:

Host Support:

Adobe After Effects: CS 4
Adobe After Effects: CS 3 & CS 5 (both WINDOWS Only)
Adobe Premiere Pro: CS 3, CS 4
Adobe Premiere Pro: CS 5 (WINDOWS Only)
Apple Final Cut Pro: 7.0.3
Avid Media Composer: 5.0.3 & 5.5.1
Media 100 Suite: 2.0
Sony Vegas: 10d

IMHO Yes, considering that RED 5 includes Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) filters as well as Final Effects Complete (FEC) filters, I'd say you get more for your $295 with RED than you would for $595 with just BCC7.

You loose the tight integration of BCC7 with Vegas Pro but you gain the ability to run other AE plug-ins and you get a real 3D environment to work in so, if I could only own own I would get RED 5.

I was going to install the standalone application but I guess I better wait for Vegas 10d to come out and make a better use of the 14 day trial.

Hopefully they will come up with an introductory offer. In the last weeks, Red 4 was priced at 595$ with a free upgrade to Red 5 but now Red 5 is priced at 995$.

I am in the same situation wanted to order on monday morning (europe time) to discover that red5 was allready released.

So I hope there will be an 'introduction' pricing as this product looks good but a little bit pricy compared to the price we pay for ex. for Vegas Pro which is at just below 600usd for the whole product.

Lets cross fingers.

looks like red5 is avaliable.

trial on site:

http://www.borisfx.com/red/

EDIT: and both 32/64 bits versions does not list vegas in installation options, not appears in transitions/effects list?

weird...

Spectralis wrote on 4/27/2011, 5:27 PM
RED 5 for Vegas has been delayed. It won't be available until Vegas 10d is released this week presumably.
