Very cool improvements. I especially like the assistance with making templates. Should have lots of good application for wedding videographers doing same day edits, romance vids, etc., by converting existing .veg files into templates and automatically loading media, applying effects/edits and rendering for presentation. Big time saver.

Wondering... is VASST through with upgrading US Pro?

If so, does Production Assistant contain ALL the applications of US Pro or just some? There are a few dozen small features I use all the time with US Pro, and I'm wondering if I pick them up in Production Assistant if I purchased it for the new features.

What additional features would you like to see in a future version of US Pro?

Ultimate S Pro is currently packed with 15 tabs full of function. I don't know what else it needs but I'm open to ideas. We got feedback from customers that they don't use all of the tabs so we created the Lite version because we wanted to give customers a lower entry price point (especially in lieu of the tough economic times we are in). US Pro is still our flagship product. We are keeping it current with Vegas Pro as new versions come out.

We are considering various ways of introducing new major features to US Pro yet still keeping it cost effective. Perhaps allowing customers to purchase tabs separately? This way people can just buy the features that they use. We are open to trying new ways to deliver the functions you need in a cost effective way.

I am always open to feedback and love hearing from our customers about what they want/need. Let me know what's on your mind.

Production Assistant does NOT contain all of the applications of Ultimate S Pro. Production Assistant is focused on "batch process automation" while Ultimate S Pro is focused on "interactive" editing. As we add more automation processing capabilities to Production Assistant the difference will become more and more apparent as seen in the recent PA 2.0 announcement.

They do share some tools in common which are Photo Montage, MotoFoto, Lower Thirds, Film Looks, and similar Rendering capabilities but that is only 5 of the 15 tabs that are available in Ultimate S Pro. So Ultimate S Pro still has 10 tabs of interactive function that Production Assistant does not have (Editing Tools, Markers, Audio Tools, Visual Effects, Quad-CAM, Special FX, DVD, Audit, Setup, & Project). Some of the Marker, Audio, and Video functions will be included in PA 2.0 but it's not the entire tab of function. It's just pieces of it that make sense in a batch processing environment.

On the Production Assistant side, it has process automation that Ultimate S Pro does not have. The ability to take process functions and string them together into a workflow is an extremely powerful feature that only Production Assistant has. Of course the ability to create entire projects from templates as another big feature that is unique to Production Assistant and has been enhanced with a Template Creator and Template Mapper in the coming version 2.0.

We've also just added a "hands-free" workflow to PA 2.0 where you insert the card from your camera and PA 2.0 can senses it, copy the files to your hard drive, open Vegas with a template, run some batch processing, and even render automatically without every touching a thing other than specifying the folder for the project. That particular feature is really aimed at the Same Day Event and Run & Gun/ENG News Gathering market.

Ultimate S Pro and Production Assistant are really are aimed at solving different "workflow" problems. As I said, we're always open for feedback on how to make both better and more productive for you.

JR, I have an older version of US and PA1. Both are excellent products but I mostly use PA now. However, I recently bought Proshow Producer for creating higher end Animoto style slideshows. For a US upgrade you might want to look at PSP's r style packs - if you could make something like that available for US I bet you would sell a bunch.

i'd certainly be interested in buying the tabs i need - rather like cable, 2 decent out of 99 (not reflecting badly at all on us tabs i wouldn't use ;-)

How about improving the photo montage tab, it's so basic it's not desirable.

JR thanks for PA it helps me a lot with projects

What I really need to speed things up is the ability to select a few tracks, group and save these as a veg file or project
Or even better save selected multiple tracks to a new track as nested Veg file.

Would be very nice.

Rory, I'll second that! This would be extremely useful.

You know... there is a Production Assistant forum that I monitor daily. ;-)

> [ushere] "a. do i need to uninstall pa1 before installing 2?"

No, you don't have to. They will both coexist. I have both installed for testing purposes.

> [ushere] "b. do i need both installed?"

No. PA2 has everything that PA1 has so there is no need for PA1 if you have PA2.

> [ushere] "c. if (in case i forget!), i install p2 without removing pa1, can i uninstall pa1 AFTER installing pa2?"

You can uninstall PA1 but it might uninstall the additional GrafPaks, BackPaks, etc. It is probably good to run the PA2 installer again after you uninstall PA1. I played with keeping counters to tell if these add-ons were still in use but there were too many scenarios where they might get left behind so I figured it was just easier to run the latest installer again because it only takes a few seconds and it's guaranteed to work.

Yea, I agree. I've had times when I've needed this too. Good idea. ;-)

" Perhaps allowing customers to purchase tabs separately? This way people can just buy the features that they use. We are open to trying new ways to deliver the functions you need in a cost effective way. "

My editing needs are somewhere between the lite and full version.

There are tabs that I really need, tabs I might need once in a while and tabs I will most likely never need.

If I could purchase the tabs I really need now, the ones I might need later and if my needs change in the future the ones I think I might never need then that would be great!

I have the trial of the lite version which almost meets my needs but is a hair short. I can't remember what it is a hair short of just. The extra expense for the full version for a whole lot of what I do not need is a poor way to spend my video budget money and does not make sense!

So I end up with nothing because I do not want to spend on something that is not quite enough and something that is too much.

The price per tab would depend on the tab itself. There could be a multiple tab price discount if one buys two or more tabs.

You won't get that bigger chunk of money but you would at least get some money from people like me!

Then there are those who are on an extremely tight budget who can only afford a tab at a time until they eventually get the whole thing. Maybe they can do a tab a month or whatever. With the economy being the way it is, the tab at a time most likely would be the only way some can make a purchase.

Everyone's editing needs are different and vary a lot. Getting the tools one actually needs, no more, no less and can afford is very important!
