Sony vegas render issue- unsupported media type

I am using vegas pro 10E build 738. programs I have installed: quicktime pro, dvd architect 5.2, Core ftp LE, AVG virus free version, Vegas studio platinum 10HD, cccleaner, periform defraggler, cineform neoscene, google chrome, a netgear device to hook into our wireless connection and an HP printer.
My computer uses an intel processor 2.93GHz 4 gig, 64 bit windows 7

I am having massive render issues. I have been for 2 years actually. I get it to finally work, it does for a while, then starts crashing and I have to reformat and start again.

Right now, I just did a reformat two days ago. This morning, I got vegas to render a 12 second clip at full HD. I also got it to render a 1:42 mp4 at 720x480

I tried to render a longer video of 4:52. It got to 68% and crashed. I tried a couple of times. Then I tried a shorter video of about 2 mins and got the same results. The error message is:
An error occurred while creating the media file. An unsupported type was requested.

I tried to render as an mov and got the same message:
an error occured while creating the media file. An unsupported media type was requested.

Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this? I have a 90 ish minute film I'm trying to finish.

thanks,
Melissa

4gb of memory for vegas really isn't enough for 64-bit windows and vegas. if you can, add 4 more at least.

also, folks here seem to have less agita with nvidia vs. amd.

disconnect from internet, and turn off AVG - then select and create a project of some of your source files and create a short 4minute length project.

Then try to render to mpg2 streaming video template for DVDAPro.
Does that work?

I can't add more Ram, but I get vegas to work for sometimes months at a time. :)
I will try this and let you know. Thanks for the suggestion.

Source media properties?
Quicktime version?
Complete render properties?

It was suggested that I remove AVG anti virus. I did. No issues now. Thanks for the replies.
