I am just trying to figure out if the transcode issue is a software or hardware issue. I only had one X70 file to work with and I don't see an issue with my AX100 files in batch transcode;

***AX100 files are not the same (XAVC-S). I owned an AX100 before selling it to purchase the X70 (XAVC-L). It's a completely different implementation of the codec.

not in Prepare and not in Browse. How many would you think are a batch? More then one?

***Yes more than one. If you want to repeat the problem load mutiple X70 files into Catalyst Browse and select/transcode them as a batch.

Have you tried turning off GPU in Catalyst Browse and Prepare? It may help with the crashing as well as with the level shift.

***I have tried with CPU and GPU on two different computers with the same results. I can usually get away with short files but long interviews almost always crash.

Marc,

I do know that AX100 files are different. Anyways, I used your sample file, made 8 copies of it and transcoded it with Catalyst Browse. Sorry to say, but there is not a single pixel difference between patch transcoding or single file.

Unless my test is again wrong, I cant reproduce your error.

Catalyst Browse - Batch Transcode

Catalyst Browse - Single Transcode

Are you using Catalyst Browse 1.2.0.159? I have done batch conversion of my AX100 4K files to 1080 4:2:2 in batch mode; 157 files and had no crash.

FYI - refer to this background of problem description:

Re: Strange Catalyst Browse levels issue

Remark by Paul Anderegg
I, Paul, found the root of the problem. I reingested (by batch) all clips in batch mode for the story that clip came from. Problem reappeared!

This appears to be a definite issue with the new BATCH CONVERT function in Catalyst Browse. I am including a screen grab showing that even the file size for the two clips when ingested individually and in batch are different sizes.

I also tested this using the PC version, which only transcodes to XAVC Intra, as well as on my Mac again transcoding to XAVC Intra instead of ProRes. This issue exhibits itself on both platforms on ProRes as well as XAVC Intra in the BATCH CONVERT MODE.

NOTE- Individual file transcodes are not affected on either platform. Forwarding this concern to Sony, so that we can begin batch transcoding and editing our XAVC L footage by sometime in 2017. :-

added Remark by Tobias Meinken
The batch convert not only exhibits this strange level shift, but BROWSE transcodes single and batch clips in different bit rates as well. I found same clips to be up to 20 MBits/s apart.

I'm using the latest version. Perhaps it's a problem that affects only certain graphics cards. I'm using the Nvidea 570. By the way Sony has reproduced it in house according to another poster.

I am not sure if it has todo with GPU acceleration because you mentioned that it happens even with GPU off on your system.
I am now wondering if the transcoded files on my system all have a black level shift or are correct. Would it be suffcient to compare just an image taken from Vegas timeline including timecode or frame number and upload it to Dropbox so you can compare it?
