Sophisticated Lighting Effects

I'm pretty new to Vegas, and I have a little bit of trouble figuring out some of the effects shown in the Vegas 9 description under the heading Sophisticated Lighting Effects, specifically I'm unsure how the "Sparks" and "Reveal" effects in the "Rays" example video are done.

Any pointers (or even sample .veg file) are welcome.

What part DON'T you understand? If this is getting it to work over a period of time - 2- 4 - 10 seconds, or whatever, it'll all be in the application of KeyFrames.

Now, what WOULD be neat if you and I had access to the online "Plugin Help" file. At present it is coming up as Protype Help AND is hanging Vegas. ( note to self: Must Send nudge to SCS here . . )

But yes, very fine FXs - just WHAT don't you understand? I could "wing" most of it . . just ask. If I don;t know I'll tell yah - and maybe others will "pull-up-a-chair"? Yes?

Ah! The Little "?" within the actual Fx adjustment Menu is providing the necessary Online Help - outstanding(!).

A slightly nicer language would probably have been in order. And as I did mention, I'm relatively new to Vegas.

Now, I have managed to get the "Rays" effects to work, somewhat, however the result I have is not nearly as polished as I would have liked, so there are two options, me spending more time (not really a problem) or ask, maybe, just maybe I'm overlooking an elegant and simple solution...

You learn by doing, and by getting inspiration from others...specifically HOW they did it, not just that they did.

Might I ask just what you are asking for? Do you have a finished item in mind? Have you seen such an example you wish to emulate? Would it be at all possible for you to post such an example that we may consider?

When you say "elegant" are you referring solely to the process or the outcome?

Kind regards

Grazie

Hey- don't knock Grazie; you will love him if you hang around here any length of time as he is quite helpful :)

As Grazie said, if you would give us an idea of what you are trying to do, maybe we could help you- or email you a veg file that does what you want and you can reverse engineer it.

You're misreading Grazie's enthusiasm to help as criticism, but it's not. He's trying to find out exactly what he needs to help you.

In short, what I was trying to do was to recreate the effects on the Sophisticated Lighting Effects page of the Vegas Pro 9 description. Specifically the "Flare", "Sparks" and "Reveal" effects shown on the sample video. As much as a learning exercise, as much as an attempt to familiarize myself with the mew Media FX's.

"Flare": was not a problem, and I managed to recreate that one after a few tries.
"Sparks": have proven itself rather hard to do, I must be missing a mask or two, what I get is certainly not what I see :)
"Reveal": I have something approaching the effect in that sample video, however it is not quite right yet.

When I say elegant, I mean something with as few layers needed in the time line as possible. When I get to 5-6 layers or more to achieve an effect, I start thinking that maybe I'm not doing it right.

I'll try to clean up and post the .veg files I have so far, that should make it easier to see what I'm trying to do/learn. But that won't happen till tomorrow.

There are some sample .vegs here that demonstrate how some of those effects can be achieved. I'm not sure if they cover the exact ones you are after though.

Thanks, these seem to be the source of the sample videos I was talking about, and I was definitely on the wrong track, trying to use masks in the Pan/Crop event to achieve the effect in sample_projects\rays\reveal.veg
