Sorry more pc questions

The new computer I'm putting together(actually rebuilding a sony Vaio ra 820)
Has the OS on a 200 gig SATA drive and I'm installing another SATA 200 drive I have various ATA drives in enclosures but am think of installing one the smaller ATA(60 gig) drives as the OS system drive then maybe setting up the 2 200 SATA's in a RAID, as well as connecting the other externals.
so here are the questions:
Any downside to moving the OS to the ATA drive?
would I be better off with just using the SATA as separate drives for video storage.
(thinking of using a dedicated drive for storing HDV files and using the externals for DV stuff)

And last but not least what is the best way to transfer all my editing programs Vegas/plug ins...etc. to the new computer. Just basic installs I guess. but I'm planning on leaving the new PC offline.
Any tips or words of expirience/wisdom are welcome/

That is what I would do.

No problem with the OS sitting on the ATA drive.

You said you were thinking of configuring the 2 SATA drives in a RAID configuration. There are two very different RAID configurations so I am curious as to which one you wanted to use and why? You don't need a RAID config at all to just use 2 SATA drives as independant drives.

you should be able to clone the current sata system disk to an ide drive with any of several image software apps, then plug it in and make sure it works before going any further.

sata raid... i'd agree that it's probably not necessary, and you should look into whether or not the drives have to be matched in size, manufacturer, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys, Looks like the only way to actually use an IDE ATA drive would be to pull the flopy. I think what I'll do is just get a smaller SATA drive 60 gig, then just keep the 2 other 200g's as separate drives. I have Acronis true Image and Ill use that to clone the system drive.
One other note when in disk manager I notice that the orig. c drive looks like 2 partions 1 does not have a drive letter but is aprox 6 gigs and says eisa config. I'm thinkin its a back up copy of the os and orig programs. (I have already made rescue disc's that took about 6 gigs on 2 DVDs )the other has the remain space as C
any clue as to what that is or what I should do when cloning?
I'll just keep my ATA's in their ext enclosures.
Lovin the new PC though. 3.2 HT 1 gig ram(planning on more) No my HDV stuff plays pretty much full FR in preview mode. :0)
