Sort of on topic - old versions

Just given away my Vegas 3 to someone who wants to try it for some simple editing. I thought it would suffice for now but, having loaded it onto my PC I have found it doesn't seem to like mp4 files. The entire video is just green and the audio appears for just 8 frames but empty.

I have no problems with mp4 files with Vegas 10/12 so is it that 3 can't deal with these or should my friend look for further codecs?

I also have registered versions of 4, 5 & 8 I could give him so would he be better off with one of those?

Appreciate this goes back a bit but but advice would be helpful.

Cheers.

Not to worry. I've passed on Pro 8 as I don't need it anymore.

I forget if you can get old versions to regonize something like mp4 that didn't exist back then. The biggest issue I've seen is that pre-Vista Vegas/DVDA versions seem to be hit & miss with Windows Vista & 7.

Vegas 8 is better though. They might be spoiled by the motion trails in Vegas 3 & not having them in 8 though (I still miss them). :)
