If you haven’t tried it, take a look at Beauty Box by Digital Anarchy.

It allows you to direct your effects based on a mask, based on skin tone colors, or whatever colors you choose.

You can also sharpen, based on the mask, or not, a great feature. This allows you to smooth the skin, and yet add a bit of sparkle to the eyes.

It has a nice “Shine Removal” feature, tones down those pesky hot spots on the forehead, cheeks, etc. It also has color correction.

Bottom line, Beauty Box allows me to smooth what I want, sharpen what I want, at the same time, from one easy to use, time saving, plug-in.

"It occurred to me while reading your impressions that brides rarely show up HD-ready." Not even sure what you mean there MV! Yes, I did mean BC's in Vegas - wouldn't know where to start with that in camera!!??

The Beauty box plug-in sounds interesting Barry, will check it out. Bear in mind though that this thread was started because of these sparkling thingies, not because I was worried about how the Bride looked! She's lovely just as she is.

Sorry that wasn't clear to you.
You should be using the Levels filter in Vegas with your camera footage, not the Broadcast Levels in Vegas with your camera footage. The reason is that your camera blacks are already near Broadcast levels and don't need any additional Setup.

I'm well into my next edit, and will certainly be trying that.

Is there a Broadcast Levels plugin?
There's a Broadcast Colors plugin that I suggested Arthur use as a quick test.
It doesn't shift levels, it simply clamps them much the same as a legalizer.

So, to wind this thread up, I'd like to thank you all again for the amount of time you've spent looking into it Did you ever try using the denoised video I uploaded for you? I'm pretty certain it should have fixed most of the problem. I did the de-noising on a field-by-field basis, rather than frame-by-frame, so it should fix the issues that Bob (farss) mentioned several times, namely that the noise sometimes shows up on the upper field, but not the lower (or vice versa).

I certainly checked it out John, but not quite sure what you mean by "use it". This was a just small sample of the problem that I uploaded for folks to see the problem. As soon as I managed to work out the cause (the sharpening) I corrected it and completed the job.
I'm in awe of how you managed to work on a field by field basis - how do you go about that? I wouldn't know where to start.
