Sot:Dual view monitors with different resolutions?

Hey guys,

In short, I want my Sony TV (1920x1080) to display the exact same thing as my main PC monitor (1920x1200).
The only option that the Nvidia geforce menu has is 'clone' mode, but that sets the main monitor to the lower resolution of the TV too. As I understand that's how the clone mode works.

So what I am probably looking for is a 'dual view' which leaves the native resolution of both the monitors intact. This option doesen't seem to be on the Nvidia menu.

Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670
Driver, software 9.18.13.4411.

Any suggestions? Maybe another software which can do this?

Have you tried using Window's own Display Properties? I prefer that over the graphic card's software, Nvidia or AMD, as it that where the programs look up for settings. But, I believe, it is a limitation of Windows that a duplicated screen will default to the lowest resolution in the group. I also believe that the reasoning behind is that the lowest resolution display will always fit into a higher resolution display without changing the aspect ratio. Your 1920x1200 would have to be down scaled to fit into a 1920x1080 display causing black bars.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have tried Windows button + P to switch between modes.
If it were just black bars it wouldn't be an issue.

But the lower resolution (vertical 1200 downsized to 1080) results in an stretched out image on the main pc monitor.

Some analogue output would have been better maybe.
So native resolution on the pc monitor then an analogue out to the TV.

Display your monitor as 1920x1080 like your TV. That's normally a workable res and if it's not your monitor might black bar it.

According to my ATI control panel, for the TV it has an option to use the GPU to scale & to keep the system AR. Nvidia should have the same thing.

I see you have an Intel 3770k processor, the same as mine. If your motherboard supports it, try using both your Nvidia and the HD4000 Intel graphics at the same time. I'm still using the lowly Nvidia 650, but have no problems driving dual monitors at 1900 x 1200 and a TV at 1920 x 1080. I agree with OldSmoke that using the Windows display properties is much better than Nvidia's software.

In Windows' own "Screen Resolution" control panel (right-mouse-button click on your desktop to get there) you must set Multiple displays to "Extend these displays". After that you can set up different resolutions and aspects for each monitor individually, and also specify their physical layout in relation to each other so that mouse movement across them makes sense.

I suspect though that most programs, probably including Windows, have no ability to display the same thing on both screens when they are not matched resolution.

What you really need are some of the older monitors that would self-scale an incoming image at higher than native resolution back down and display them, albeit a bit fuzzily. Most newer monitors simply refuse to display the image rather than scaling it.
