SOT: Field Capture using Adobe OnLocation

I've just equip ed myself to monitor and capture to notebook in the field with OnLocation (ex DV Rack) and I have all sorts of basic practical questions and concerns and I am surprised that I can not find an OnLocation/DV Rack users group. The forum on the Adobe site has about nine threads and about three posts a week! Are many people using this tool? Does anyone here use this tool?

My questions are not technical but things like how long a firewire cable can you have? What size/resolution do you use for the monitor screen? What use of gain and non 60fps shutter speeds can be used to expand the SureShot dynamic range indicator?

If anyone knows of an OnLocation community or wish to answer here if a user great.

I use the DVRack version still, although I do have the OnLocation tool.
Firewire length isn't set. Some guys can get by with a 60' cable and no repeater! I have done so regularly on a desktop, but can't on a laptop. I have desktop on my laptop set to 1280 x 800.
Not sure what you're asking about the SureShot, I don't use it, but by slightly underexposingwith necessary shutter, you'll get closer. that's what SureShot is supposed to teach you, how to expose for greatest range. Lighting and how you set up the scene plays a significant role in getting the most dynamic range as well.
Set up your shot, keep the dark areas of the scene at the bottom of the WF monitor and hit the whites as bright as the monitor displays. Adjust lighting so you've got lots of information in between.
There is a DV Rack forum on the DMN site, but it's pretty dead overall.
